A featherweight bout between Maximo Blanco and Mike de la Torre has joined the fight card for “The Ultimate Fighter 21” Finale.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced the matchup on Monday.
The live finale for the 21st season of “TUF” takes place July 12 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, which will host UFC 189 “Aldo vs. McGregor” on the night prior. Welterweights Jake Ellenberger and Stephen Thompson will headline the event, which caps the UFC’s 2015 International Fight Week.
Blanco, 31, suffered losses in three of his first four Octagon appearances but last year righted his ship with back-to-back victories against Andy Ogle and Daniel Hooker. The Venezuelan wrestling convert rose to prominence in Japan’s now-defunct Sengoku organization, where Blanco compiled a five-fight knockout streak between 2009 and 2010.
De La Torre will look to start a winning streak of his own, having started his year with a knockout of Tiago dos Santos e Silva on Feb. 22. The 28-year-old dropped bouts to Mark Bocek and Brian Ortega to begin his UFC career, but the latter loss was overturned when Ortega tested positive for anabolic steroids.
