Former IFL champion
Ryan McGivern will compete in Bellator Fighting Championships’ season-two middleweight tournament, the promotion announced on Thursday.
McGivern joins
Bryan Baker,
Jared Hess,
Sean Loeffler,
Matt Major, and
Eric Schambari in the 12-week, eight-man tournament.
A former University of Iowa wrestler, the 30-year-old McGivern was a member of the 2006 IFL World Championship team, the Quad City Silverbacks, helmed by former UFC champion Pat Miletich. McGivern earned key victories over
Matt Horwich (twice) and Brazilian
Fabio Leopoldo during his tenure with the now defunct promotion. McGivern defeated
Geno Roderick at Adrenaline MMA 2 in December 2008 in Moline, Ill., but hasn’t competed since.
Bellator’s second season will broadcast on FOX Sports Net in the U.S. and The Score in Canada, with pre-taped highlight shows airing weekly on NBC and Telemundo.
