The stakes have been raised for the Invicta Fighting Championships 21 headliner.
The all-female promotion announced on Friday that the featherweight showdown between Megan Anderson and Charmaine Tweet has been elevated to a five-round interim championship bout. Invicta FC 21 takes place at the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo. The eight-bout card streams in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass.
CristianeJustino is the reigning Invicta 145-pound queen but hasn’t fought for the organization since a first-round knockout of Daria Ibragimova on Jan. 16, 2016. Since then, she has twice appeared in 140-pound catch-weight bouts for the UFC. “Cyborg” was flagged for a potential anti-doping violation last month and could face up to a one-year suspension from USADA after testing positive for a diuretic.
"I think this is a great move in the right direction for the Invicta featherweight division," Anderson said in a release. "It's an exciting time for the 145-pound athletes and I'm looking forward to bringing my belt back to my team, my family and taking another step forward in my career.”
Anderson has won three straight fights under the Invicta banner -- all by way of knockout or technical knockout. Tweet, who was stopped by Justino in 46 seconds at Invicta FC 11, has won three bouts in a row since that defeat.
