Melendez Not Fighting Marcello

(Pictures) will not be defending his
Strikeforce 155-pound title against Cristiano Marcello
(Pictures) on March 29, a Strikeforce
representative told Sherdog.com on Monday.
It was reported last week that the bout was set for the Strikeforce and EliteXC co-promotion at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., which will be headlined by Frank Shamrock (Pictures)'s middleweight fight against Cung Le (Pictures).
However, Strikeforce Vice President Mike Afromowitz said the Melendez-Marcello fight was never signed. Afromowitz added that Melendez will be fighting March 29, and an opponent is expected to be confirmed Monday evening.
