Melvin Guillard’s time as a UFC lightweight has reached its end.

After more than eight years and 22 fights inside the Octagon, the 30-year-old Guillard was released by the Las Vegas-based promotion on Thursday night. first reported the news.

“The Young Assassin” is coming off a disappointing showing against Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night 38, where he often failed to engage with his former Blackzilians teammate en route to losing a unanimous decision. Guillard first surfaced on Season 2 of “The Ultimate Fighter” and went on to post a 12-9 mark in the UFC, including victories over Dennis Siver, Gleison Tibau, Jeremy Stephens and Mac Danzig.

The Louisianan had fallen on hard times of late, however, with only two victories in his last eight Octagon appearances. Guillard often lacked training camp stability during the latter portion of his career, as he spent time with Jackson’s MMA, the Blackzilians, Grudge Training Center and American Top Team at some point during the past three years.
