Michael Bisping Responds to Luke Rockhold: ‘Try to Claw Your Way Back to the Top’

Michael Bisping has some suggestions for Luke Rockhold after the American Kickboxing Academy product trashed the Englishman’s reign as middleweight champion.

Fresh off a victory over former World Series of Fighting two-division David Branch at UFC Fight Night 116 last Saturday, Rockhold appeared on “UFC Tonight,” where he criticized Bisping’s choice of opponents as champion.

“I think it’s the worst in UFC history,” Rockhold said. “No one has ever gotten that treatment. No one’s avoided every top contender. He was supposed to fight Jacare. He avoided that. He was supposed to fight Yoel [Romero]. He avoided that.

“And somehow he’s getting away from this fight with [Robert] Whittaker. He fought Dan Henderson, the No. 14 ranked at the time, and now he’s going for GSP,” he continued. “He hasn’t done anything. I fought a guy who’s four spots higher than the guy he fought his last title defense.”

Bisping upset Rockhold via first-round knockout at UFC 199 to claim the middleweight throne. He took a five-round verdict over Henderson in his first title defense at UFC 204 last October and will face returning former welterweight king Georges St. Pierre in the UFC 217 main event on Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The outspoken Brit fired back at Rockhold in typical fashion on “TUF Talk” Wednesday.

“It’s a good job that he looks good because he obviously can’t add. 15 months? I fought less than a year ago,” Bisping said. “He hasn’t fought since I knocked him out in three minutes — yes, three minutes — out cold. He comes back and he fights, who is it, David Branch? I’ve never heard of him. He should go rematch Chris Weidman — [they’re] a couple of bums. Try to claw your way back to the top.”
