Former Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki middleweight champion Michal Materla will face mercurial Brazilian grappler Rousimar Palhares in the KSW 36 main event on Oct. 1 at the Sport and Entertainment Hall in Zielona Gora, Poland, In the co-headliner, Tomasz Narkun will defend his KSW light heavyweight crown against Ultimate Fighting Championship and Pride Fighting Championships veteran Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
Materla, 32, boasts 17 finishes among his 23 pro victories. He last fought at KSW 35 on May 27, when he rebounded from his 31-second knockout loss to Mamed Khalidov to dispose of Antoni Chmielewski with first-round punches. Wins over Jay Silva (twice), Kendall Grove, Rodney Wallace, Matt Horwich and Tomasz Drwal anchor his resume.
Palhares looks to have accepted his role as a hired gun after being stripped of the World Series of Fighting welterweight championship a little more than a year ago. The 36-year-old Brazilian saw his four-fight winning streak come to a halt in shocking fashion at a Venator Fighting Championship event in May, as he was on the receiving end of a 45-second knockout loss to Emil Weber Meek. The defeat followed decisive victories over Jake Shields, Jon Fitch, Steve Carl and Mike Pierce. One of MMA’s most dangerous and feared grapplers, Palhares has secured 15 of his 18 career wins by submission.
