Johny Hendricks will square off against rising prospect Paulo Henrique Costa in a middleweight bout at UFC 217 in New York.
Multiple outlets confirmed the booking on Wednesday following an initial report from Combate. UFC 217 takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York and is headlined by a middleweight championship tilt between Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre.
After outpointing Hector Lombard in his middleweight debut, Hendricks missed weight and suffered a second-round technical knockout loss to Tim Boetsch in his second 185-pound outing at UFC Fight Night 112 on June 25. The former welterweight champion has lost four of his five Octagon appearances since 2016.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Brazilian known as “Borrachinha” has stormed to a 10-0 record to begin his professional career. Most recently, Costa scored a second-round stoppage of Oluwale Bamgbose at UFC 212 on June 3, his ninth career triumph via knockout or technical knockout. Bamgbose was the first “Borrachinha” foe to make it past the first round.
