Miesha Tate to Defend Bantamweight Title Against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200

Miesha Tate will face a new foe in her first title defense when she squares off against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200.

The matchup was announced during UFC Tonight on Wednesday. UFC 200 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 9 and is headlined by a welterweight rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor. The blockbuster card also features an interim featherweight championship tilt pitting Jose Aldo against Frankie Edgar.

Tate captured the bantamweight title with a submission of Holly Holm 3:30 into the fifth round of their encounter at UFC 196. “Cupcake” has won five straight fights in the Octagon and recently signed a new contract with the Las Vegas-based promotion.

Nunes, meanwhile, has been victorious in five of her six UFC appearances. She enters the championship bout on a three-fight winning streak, including a unanimous verdict against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 196. Nunes’ lone defeat in the promotion came against former title challenger Cat Zingano at UFC 178.
