Mike Perry will get the opportunity to add another big name to his resume when he faces Thiago Alves at UFC Fight Night 116 in Pittsburgh.

The welterweight knockout artist announced the pairing via Twitter on Thursday. MMAFighting.com initially reported the matchup last week. UFC Fight Night 116 takes place at the PPG Paints Arena on Sept. 16 and is headlined by a middleweight duel pitting Luke Rockhold against David Branch.

Perry last competed at UFC Fight Night 108, where he authored a “Knockout of the Year” candidate when he finished Jake Ellenberger with a brutal standing elbow 1:08 into the second round of their encounter on April 22. “Platinum” is 3-1 in the Octagon and 10-1 as a professional overall, with all of his victories coming via knockout or technical knockout.

Alves, who challenged Georges St. Pierre for the 170-pound title in June 2009, returned to the welterweight division at UFC 210, where he captured a three-round verdict against Patrick Cote. The 33-year-old Brazilian attempted a move to 155 pounds at UFC 205, but he failed to make weight and dropped a unanimous decision to Jim Miller. “Pitbull” is 14-8 during his promotional tenure and 22-11 as a professional overall.
