World Series of Fighting will begin its 2016 campaign next month in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Las Vegas-based organization on Monday announced that FedEx Forum will host WSOF 27, a card set to be headlined by a lightweight duel between onetime “Ultimate Fighter” finalist Mike Ricci and former Strikeforce standout Caros Fodor. The Jan. 23 event will air live on NBCSN beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
Ricci, 29, has won three straight bouts since being released by the UFC in 2013, including victories over fellow Octagon vets George Sotiropoulos and Jorge Gurgel. The Tristar Gym representative knocked out Joe Condon in the opening round of WSOF’s one-night lightweight tournament on Nov. 20, but Ricci was unable to continue in the bracket due to a hip injury.
Fodor, 31, spent the past two years competing for Singapore’s One Championship, where he ran up a record of 3-1 with a pair of submission wins. “The Future” has been absent from the cage since September 2014, when he bested Vincent Latoel via second-round rear-naked choke. Fodor joins his brother, Ben Fodor, who began competing under the WSOF banner in April.
Also announced for WSOF 27 was a light heavyweight co-feature pitting former title challenger Teddy Holder against unbeaten Russian grappler Shamil Gamzatov.
