Mills-MacDonald Welterweight Bout Green-Lit for UFC 145

A welterweight showdown between rejuvenated Brit Che Mills and Canadian up-and-comer Rory MacDonald will take place at UFC 145, promotion officials announced Wednesday.

Mills-MacDonald is the first verified contest for the March 24 event, which will emanate from the Bell Centre in Montreal. The event marks the UFC’s first trip to Quebec since December 2010, when UFC 124 was headlined by Georges St. Pierre’s successful welterweight title defense against Josh Koscheck.

Mills (Pictured), 29, has won his last five outings. “Beautiful” debuted in the UFC on Nov. 5, finishing Chris Cope in just 40 seconds to earn “Knockout of the Night” honors at UFC 138. The lanky Brit owns 11 of his 14 career wins by knockout or submission and has yet to be knocked out as a pro. Mills owns a pair of notable wins over Dream welterweight champ Marius Zaromskis.

One of Canada’s most highly regarded prospects, MacDonald has impressed in each of his four Octagon appearances. “Ares” debuted with the UFC in 2010, submitting Michael Guymon with an armbar before dropping a hard-fought contest to former WEC champion Carlos Condit at UFC 115. The 22-year-old has yet to taste defeat in 2011, earning dominant wins over Nate Diaz and Mike Pyle in April and August, respectively.
