World-ranked bantamweight and one-time World Extreme Cagefighting title challenger
Takeya Mizugaki will meet
Scott Jorgensen at
WEC 45 “Cerrone vs. Ratcliff” on Dec. 19 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
WEC General Manager Reed Harris announced the matchup via Twitter.
Mizugaki burst on the scene in 2008 when he won the Cage Force bantamweight tournament and raised his stock even further when he battled then WEC bantamweight champion
Miguel Torres for five full rounds in April. The 25-year-old has not competed since he won a split decision from
Jeff Curran at WEC 42 two months ago. Mizugaki, who was originally slated to meet
Damacio Page at WEC 45, has posted six wins in seven fights and has been finished only once in 17 professional bouts.
A decorated collegiate wrestler, Jorgensen stopped “The Ultimate Fighter 5” alum
Noah Thomas on first-round strikes at WEC 43 earlier this month. Anchored at the Twisted Genetiks camp in Idaho, he holds notable victories against
Tyler Toner and
Kenji Osawa, the only man to finish Mizugaki. The 27-year-old has won three of his past four fights, a controversial split decision loss to
Antonio Banuelos the lone hiccup.
A lightweight matchup pairing
Donald Cerrone with
Ed Ratcliff will headline WEC 45, along with the debut of former International Fight League standout
Chris Horodecki. He will square off with
Anthony Njokuani in another pivotal 155-pound battle.
