An interesting clash of styles will unfold at UFC 131 June 11 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, as middleweight contenders Mark Munoz and Demian Maia will do battle at the Rogers Arena.
Munoz (10-2), a hard-hitting decorated wrestler, is fresh off a 54 second thrashing of C.B. Dollaway at UFC live 3 on March 3. Maia (14-2), a submission-savvy Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and former challenger of middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s title, last competed in a decision win against Kendall Grove in December 2010.
The UFC made the pairing public Saturday on its website, stating that the bout, and three others, had been “verbally agreed to.”
UFC 131 will be headlined by “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 13 opposing coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos. In addition to the aforementioned Munoz-Maia clash, also added to the card on Saturday were bouts pitting Court McGee against Jesse Bongfeldt, Anthony Perosh versus Krzysztof Soszynski and Michihiro Omigawa vs. Darren Elkins.
