Eilers’ stepfather, James R. Malec, has had his trial date
pushed back. A provisional date of Aug. 31 has been set for the man
accused of shooting and killing the former UFC heavyweight title
contender after a Christmas night argument at Malec’s home in
Nampa, Idaho.
According to a report at IdahoStatesman.com, Malec has retained the services of private counsel who will need the extra time to prepare for the trial.
Eilers (19-7-1) fought for the UFC heavyweight title in June 2005, suffering a knockout loss to champion Andrei Arlovski. The former Iowa State football standout was 30 years old when he died. He left behind an eight-year-old son.
