Narantungalag Jadambaa to Defend Title at One Championship’s ‘Odyssey of Champions’
One Championship’s return to Jakarta is expected to be an
intense one as the Asian MMA giant has just announced that its
“Odyssey
of Champions” event will be anchored by a featherweight tilt
between champion Narantungalag
Jadambaa and Marat
Gafurov. The event will take place at the Istora Senayan indoor
arena on Sept. 27.
Jadambaa, a world champion kickboxer from Mongolia, captured the One 145-pound crown a year ago when he scored a unanimous decision over Japanese fighter Koji Oishi. Jadambaa reportedly has gone back to his homeland to fine-tune his skills as a mixed martial artist and is ready to defend his title.
Standing in his way is the unbeaten Gafurov, M-1’s featherweight
titlist. Gafurov is a well-rounded fighter who has scored five
stoppages (three submissions and two knockouts) in his last six
bouts. He last fought in May where he submitted Ev Ting via
rear-naked choke in the opening round.
One Championship also announced another featherweight skirmish between unbeaten contender Herbert Burns taking on Timofey Nastyukhin. Burns is a three-time no-gi jiu jitsu world champion and three of his five pro MMA wins have come via submission.
After losing his pro debut, Russia’s Nastyukhin has won every single fight, with nary a contest going the distance. He last fought in June where soccer kicked Yusuke Kawanago out in just 92 seconds.
