Nevada Athletic Commission Approves Early Weigh-ins for UFC 200 Week
Early weigh-ins will be part of the biggest week in
Ultimate Fighting Championship history.
The Nevada Athletic Commission on Tuesday voted unanimously to utilize early weigh-in procedures at UFC 200, “The Ultimate Fighter 23” Finale and UFC Fight Night “Dos Anjos vs Alvarez,” all which will take place in Las Vegas as part of the promotion’s International Fight Week.
For those events, fighters will be able to weigh-in between 8 a.m.
and 10 a.m. at the fighter hotel. At the official weigh-in show
later in the day, weights from the morning will be announced, but
fighters will be allowed to hydrate and eat once they make
weight.
The promotion first tried the procedure at UFC 199 in Los Angeles using protocol adopted by The California State Athletic Commission. The Ontario Office of the Athletics Commissioner followed suit for this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night event in Ottawa.
UFC Senior Vice President of Public Relations Dave Sholler recently confirmed to Sherdog.com that the promotion hopes to make the early weigh-ins a permanent fixture at its events.
The same protocols will be utilized for weigh-ins ahead of Bellator 157 “Dynamite 2” in St. Louis this week as well.
The NAC will re-evaluate the procedure for future events, as early weigh-ins remain in a trial period outside of California.
