New York State of Mind: Karate Combat is Coming to the ‘Big Apple’

Karate Combat is bringing its knockout-heavy events to New York City on Sept. 27 with their next event, Karate Combat: One World. One of the things that makes Karate Combat a unique combat sports event, outside of the quick finishes, is their unique and exotic locations. The last event was held in Athens, Greece, at the Zappeion Courtyard.

The New York event will be streamed live from One World Trade Center, also known as The Freedom Tower, on Karate.com and UFC Fight Pass. The event will be the very first sporting event held on the observation deck of the world-famous building.

“This fight is a celebration of everything karate stands for, at the top of one of the most meaningful buildings in the world. Strength, Respect, Unity,” Michael DePietro, CEO of Karate Combat said. “It’s the perfect way to introduce Karate Combat to New York City.”

The main event will feature New York’s own Abdalla Ibrahim taking on Dionicio Gustavo. Gustavo, also known as “El Capitan,” previously fought in the Karate Combat Miami event, where he scored a first-round TKO over Alexandre Bouderbane in the first round with a straight right hand. This is also Ibrahim’s second fight with Karate Combat, where at the same Miami event he scored one of the more devastating knockouts against Joshua Quayhagen.
