When reports surfaced this week that Georges St. Pierre is set to finally return to action, there has been plenty of speculation regarding his first opponent in the Octagon.
St. Pierre informally retired from the UFC following a split decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in 2013. His departure freed up the UFC welterweight title he possessed for over five years and the world has been waiting for the Canadian’s return ever since he left the spotlight. But with the news of “Rush” finally coming back to reclaim his spot atop the pound-for-pound rankings, virtually everybody is dying to see who “Rush” will fight and in which class it will be.
According to online sportsbook Bovada, reigning UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is the most likely opponent. A clash between GSP and “The Count” currently stands at 5/4 odds. Bisping currently does not have a fight scheduled but has been rumored to face top 185-pound contender Yoel Romero in May.
The long-coveted super fight with former middleweight king Anderson Silva is the next likely scenario. as Bovada has that showdown pegged at 3/1 odds. With the likelihood that St. Pierre will return as a welterweight, the chances of him immediately fighting for the 170-pound title are high as well; a bout with Stephen Thompson and current champ Tyron Woodley rest at 5/1 odds.
Though it’s nearly impossible to even fathom such a duel, Bovada tossed in a St. Pierre vs. CM Punk matchup, though the unrealistic fight sits at astronomical 150/1 odds.
Who will George St. Pierre fight when he returns to the UFC?
Michael Bisping 5/4
