A pair of rising lightweight talents are set to clash when Ultimate Fighting Championship visits the Canadian province of Saskatchewan next month.
UFC officials Monday announced that Canada’s Olivier Aubin-Mercier will square off against New Yorker Chris Wade as part of UFC Fight Night “Holloway vs. Oliveira.” Headlined by a top-10 featherweight duel between Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira, the event takes place Aug. 23 at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon.
* Aubin-Mercier, 26, entered the UFC last year through “The Ultimate Fighter: Nations,” where he was defeated by countryman Chad Laprise in the tournament final. Since then, “The Quebec Kid” has notched back-to-back submission victories, tapping Jake Lindsey with a rare inverted triangle kimura in October before choking out David Michaud at April’s UFC 186.
Wade, 27, is unbeaten in his three Octagon appearances and enters the matchup on a five-fight winning streak. The former collegiate wrestler used his grappling chops in his most recent bout on June 6, when he ground out Christos Giagos across three rounds to earn a unanimous decision.
