Olympic Boxing Bronze Medalist Alexis Vastine Among 10 Killed in Helicopter Crash
Alexis Vastine, a French boxer who competed at the 2008 and 2012
Summer Olympics, was one of 10 people killed on Monday when two
helicopters collided during the filming of a reality show.
Multiple outlets out of Europe reported the news. The accident occurred in Argentina, where the survival show “Dropped” was being staged.
The show revolves around celebrities who are blindfolded and left in some of the world’s most rugged and remote locations. The helicopters crashed while in the process of initially leaving the show contestants, a group which also included two other prominent French athletes.
Vastine, 28, won the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing for his performance in the light welterweight category. In 2012, Vastine was controversially eliminated from the competition after winning his first two bouts.
