A welterweight pairing pitting Omari Akhmedov against Mats Nilsson has been added to UFC 182 on Jan 3.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced the bout on Tuesday. UFC 182 features two title fights, a 205-pound scrap pitting Jon Jones against Daniel Cormier, as well as a women’s bantamweight title fight with Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano.
Nilsson will look to bounce back from a loss in his promotional debut against Luke Barnatt at UFC Fight Night “Gustafsson vs. Manuwa,” where he was defeated by first-round knockout. The Swedish welterweight has only lost twice in his last nine fights and has an affinity for ending bouts via submission.
Akhmedov is also coming off a loss -- his came against Gunnar Nelson on the same card as Nilsson. The defeat was the 27-year-old’s first since 2011, ending an 11-fight winning streak. Not many of the Dagestani’s 15 fights have reached the judges’ scorecards, with 13 ending via knockout or submission.
