Overeem Announces Split from Golden Glory Management

Recent UFC signee Alistair Overeem announced Tuesday via Twitter that he has separated from Dutch fight team and management firm Golden Glory.

“As with any relationship, there are good times and bad times -- you have your common ground and your differences,” Overeem wrote. “As with any relationship, you have trust. When differences lead to a breach of trust, there’s no turning back and no way to continue a positive, working relationship.”

Golden Glory recently made headlines when the camp briefly butted heads with the UFC over the promotion’s payout policy for fighters. Several Zuffa fighters based at Golden Glory were released shortly after the dispute, including Marloes Coenen, John Olav Einemo and the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion.

Overeem signed a new contract with the UFC on Sept. 6 and will debut with the promotion against Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 on Dec. 30. In his announcement, the fighter declined to offer specifics behind his decision to leave the Golden Glory stable.

“I don’t air my dirty laundry. I would appreciate the respect regarding my privacy to not disclose any further details on this matter,” wrote Overeem. “Again, I would like to thank team Golden Glory for all the years we worked together and wish them success for the future.”

In addition to his Strikeforce heavyweight championship, Overeem is also the Dream interim heavyweight titleholder, as well as the 2010 K-1 World Grand Prix kickboxing champion. “The Demolition Man” has not lost since 2007, most recently defeating Fabricio Werdum in the quarterfinals of the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix on June 18. Overeem withdrew from the tournament, reportedly due to injury, following the contest.

Headquartered in the Netherlands, Golden Glory was founded in 1999. In addition to the aforementioned list of talent, the camp is also home to multiple kickboxing and MMA standouts, including Semmy Schilt, Gokhan Saki and Siyar Bahadurzada.
