The WBA welterweight showdown between Keith Thurman and Luis Collazo was made official Friday when both men made the 147-pound limit. Their battle will be televised live on ESPN Saturday night as a part Premier Boxing Champions’ new deal with the sports giant; tomorrow’s showcase is the inaugural PBC on ESPN event.
Collazo (36-6, 19 KOs) stepped to the scale first and hit the welterweight limit right on the money. The former WBA welterweight titlist is looking to regain the title he held a decade ago by toppling Jose Antonio Rivera. He lost his crown to Ricky Hatton a year later and came up short in a world title bid to Andre Berto in 2009.
Thurman, one of the hottest young champions in all of boxing, easily made weight, tipping the scale at 146.2 pounds. “One Time” has yet to lose as a pro and he is a hefty betting favorite going into Saturday’s contest. Thurman (25-0, 21 KOs) handed Robert Guerrero a loss in March after 12 sizzling rounds in the main event of the first ever PBC card.
The PBC on ESPN telecast will go live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. The event is being held inside the USF Sun Dome in Tampa.
