PBC on Fox Weigh-in Results: Garcia, Guerrero On Target

The last hurdle before they go toe-to-toe has been cleared as both Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero made weight at Friday afternoon’s weigh-ins. The two welterweights will meet in the main event of the latest Premier Boxing Champions event on Fox, which will air live from the Staples Center starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Saturday.

Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) has already captured a world title at junior welterweight, snatching up the vacant WBC version by besting ring legend Erik Morales in 2012. He added the WBA 140-title to his collection later that year when he flattened Amir Khan in the fourth. The Philadelphian defended his title four times before moving up to 147 pounds. His quest to capture the vacant WBC version of the welterweight crown will begin on Saturday against Guerrero.

Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) won the IBF featherweight title back in 2006 when he stopped Eric Aiken after eight rounds. “The Ghost” defended the crown several times before jumping up to lightweight, where he claimed a pair of interim WBC and WBA titles. He continued onto welterweight but came up short for the WBC 147-pound title in 2013 when he dropped a unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather and then again in 2015 when he dropped a decision to Keith Thurman for the WBA belt.

Guerrero was the first to weigh in, where the Californian nailed it. He looked chiseled and focused; Guerrero weighed in officially at 146.8 pounds. “Swift” was next and the unbeaten fighter looked equally ready, weighing identically to his foe.

After an intense staredown, the two camps traded verbal barbs and had to be separated. Tempers flared and the trash talk almost boiled over into a shoving match, but in the end, cooler heads prevailed.

“I come to take care of business. This is what I do,” Guerrero declared afterward. “You see his ‘O?’ It’s going to go.”

“A lot of fighters say they’re going to do this or do that to me, but it never happens,” Garcia countered. “I’m going to knock him out.”

Rising welterweight contender Sammy Vasquez (20-0, 14 KOs) will meet Aron Martinez (20-4-1, 4 KOs) in a WBC championship eliminator in the co-featured bout. Both combatants came in right on the money at 147 pounds.

PBC on Fox Weigh-in Results:

Danny Garcia (146.8) vs. Robert Guerrero (146.8)
Sammy Vasquez (147) vs. Aron Martinez (147)
Dominic Breazeale (252.8) vs. Amir Mansour (218)
