All of the preparation leading up to the fight is largely over. After weeks in smoldering gyms and training harder than they’ve likely ever trained before, Andre Dirrell and James DeGale had to clear one last hurdle before finally climbing through the ropes to tear into each other.
Both the main event fighters for Premier Boxing Champions’ afternoon fight card on NBC both made the super middleweight limit on Friday. All that’s left is to see who can walk out of the Agganis Arena in Boston, Mass. with the vacant IBF 168-pound championship. The PBC event airs on NBC beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs), from Flint, Mich., tipped the official scale at 167.8 pounds. His opponent, England’s DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs), weighed in slightly lighter at 167.2, making the fight official.
Dirrell has won six straight bouts since falling to Carl Froch via split decision in 2009. DeGale, meanwhile, has reeled off 10 consecutive triumphs since dropping a split verdict to George Groves in 2011.
