The rest of the main card for Bellator MMA’s July 16 tent-pole show in London is beginning to take shape.
Michael Page will face Fernando Gonzalez in a welterweight tilt, while Linton Vassell and Francis Carmont will square off at light heavyweight in featured bouts at Bellator 158, the California-based promotion revealed on Friday night.
Bellator 158 takes place at the O2 Arena in London and is topped by a pair of rematches, as Kevin Ferguson and James Thompson square off at heavyweight, while Paul Daley and Josh Koscheck lock horns in a welterweight duel.
Page improved his pro record to 10-0 with a victory over Jeremie Holloway at Bellator 153 on Friday night. The flamboyant knockout artist was supposed to face Gonzalez at Bellator 151 but had to withdraw from the bout for undisclosed reasons.
Gonzalez has won five straight fights in Bellator, including a split verdict over “TUF 17” cast member Gilbert Smith at Bellator 151 on March 4. Gonzalez has also bested Curtis Millender, Marius Zaromskis, Karo Parisyan and Karl Amoussou during his promotional tenure.
Vassell avenged a loss to ex-light heavyweight king Emanuel Newton in his last outing, taking a unanimous decision victory over “The Hardcore Kid” at Bellator 149. “The Swarm” is 5-2 under the Bellator banner.
Carmont hasn’t competed since making the finals of the Bellator’s light heavyweight tournament as a replacement last September. The Tristar Gym product bested Anthony Ruiz in an alternate bout before stepping in for an injured Muhammed Lawal and losing to Phil Davis via first-round knockout in the bracket’s final.
