Paige VanZant will move up to 125 pounds to face Jessica Eye at UFC 216 on Oct. 7.
The promotion confirmed the pairing following an initial report from the Las Vegas-Review Journal on Monday. UFC 216 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by an interim lightweight championship bout between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee.
The UFC announced the addition of the women’s flyweight division earlier this year and will crown an inaugural champion at the conclusion of Season 26 of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
VanZant hasn’t competed since December, when she suffered a first-round submission loss to Michelle Waterson at UFC on Fox 22 in a strawweight clash. The 23-year-old is 4-2 during her Octagon tenure.
Eye, meanwhile, is a natural flyweight who has struggled at bantamweight in the Octagon. The 31-year-old Cleveland native will enter the matchup on a four-bout skid following defeats to Bethe Correia, Sara McMann, Julianna Pena and Miesha Tate.
