“The Predator” left his gloves in the Octagon following his bout with Thiago Alves at UFC 210 at the Keybank Arena in Buffalo, N.Y., on Saturday. Cote lost a unanimous decision to Alves, his second consecutive defeat within the promotion. The result of Saturday’s fight had no impact on Cote’s decision, however.

“That was the plan since the beginning. Win or lose, that would be my last fight,” Cote said. “It’s been an amazing 15 years.”

The 37-year-old Cote exits the sport with a 23-11 career mark. He began his UFC tenure at 185 pounds and challenged Anderson Silva for the middleweight title at UFC 90 in 2008. That bout ended 39 seconds into the third round when Cote suffered a knee injury.

Cote went 10-10 during his UFC career and took notable wins over the likes of Ben Saunders, Joshua Burkman, Kyle Noke, Ricardo Almeida, Scott Smith and Kendall Grove, to name a few.
