Freire and Campos first squared off at Bellator 117 in April 2014, with the Brazilian “Pitbull” brother winning via technical knockout 52 seconds into the second frame. While Campos did well in the opening stanza, he was floored by a short left hand 10 seconds into round two and finished with an overhand right shortly thereafter.
Freire has won three of his last four bouts, including a brutal second-round KO of former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson at Bellator 172. The 31-year-old called for a title rematch with Michael Chandler after that victory, but Chandler will defend his 155-pound crown against Brent Primus at Bellator NYC “Silva vs. Sonnen.”
Campos, meanwhile, is riding the momentum of a three-fight winning streak. That includes a knockout of Melvin Guillard and decision triumphs over Derek Anderson and Djamil Chan. “The Stallion” is 7-4 during his promotional tenure overall.
