Paul Daley-Lorenz Larkin 170-Pound Clash Added to Bellator 183 on Sept. 23 in San Jose

Bellator 183 has a big addition.

Monday evening, it was reported that the forthcoming Sept. 23 card from Bellator MMA, set for the SAP Center in San Jose, California, will feature a welterweight clash between fellow dynamic strikers Paul Daley and Lorenz Larkin. The Telegraph was first to report the bout, with quotes from the ever-outspoken “Semtex.”

“Larkin is overrated. I think that I gave Douglas Lima more of a fight when we fought, I brought it to him 100 percent,” Daley told The Telegraph. “I don't feel like Larkin did that. Not to mention, I don't think Lima feared Larkin, and as a result, he underperformed. I think even Rory [MacDonald] feared me standing up, granted he has the superior ground skills, but he feared a stand-up exchange with me. Let's see what Larkin does in San Jose.”

Daley, 34, has gone 5-2 inside the Bellator cage. After a “Knockout of the Year” contender with a flying knee on Brennan Ward at Bellator 170 in January, Daley was soundly defeated by recent Bellator acquisition and former Ultimate Fighting Championship title challenger Rory MacDonald in May, tapping to a rear-naked choke in the second frame.

After a dropping to 170 pounds and going on 4-1 run in the Ultimate Fighting Championship with wins over the likes of Neil Magny and Jorge Masvidal, the 30-year-old Larkin signed a free agent deal with Bellator. In his promotional debut at Bellator 180 this past June, Larkin challenged Bellator welterweight champ Douglas Lima, but lost a five-round unanimous decision.

Bellator 183's main card airs live on Spike and its preliminary undercard streams on Spike.com. In the main event, former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson faces “Pitbull” Patricky Freire. The card also features the Bellator debut of Roy Nelson against Javy Ayala and the return of prospect Aaron Pico.
