Persey Will Accept CSAC Ruling
Heavyweight Tim Persey
(Pictures), who tested positive for
traces of methamphetamine following his TKO loss to Jonathan Wiezorek
(Pictures), stated in a press release
on Friday that he would not appeal any punishment handed down by
the California State Athletic Commission, which could lead to a
six-month suspension and $1,000 fine.
While Persey said he was "not a meth user or drug addict," the heavyweight out of Irvine, Calif. admitted to unknowingly ingesting over-the-counter "medications" that are on the CSAC's banned substance list prior to his EliteXC-promoted fight during K-1's "Dynamite USA" card on June 2.
"I understand it is my responsibility to know what the CSAC has on their list of banned substances and what I am putting into my system whether it's an over the counter medication or a prescription drug," said the 28-year-old Persey. "I had been feeling ill and had a slight shoulder injury and had not been preparing for a fight. I took the fight in short notice and stupidly, not addressed the medications I had taken. I was excited about getting the opportunity to fight."
