Chris Arreola vs. Fred Kassi

Round 1

Kassi starts off with a few jabs but they miss. Arreola slowly stalks his foe, looking to land some power. Left hand from Arreola lands, but it’s a glancing blow. Arreola presses him into the ropes and proceeds to crush his ribs with a left hook. Kassi is backing up, trying to establish his jab, but he is pawing with it. Arreola comes in to slug and walks into a tight right cross, but he’s unfazed. The action is slow-paced for the full round as both men are taking their time. Arreola lands a double jab and then digs a powerful right to the body. Kassi answers with a left hook at the bell. 10-9 Arreola.

Round 2

Arreola continues to come forward, but he’s looking for an opening. Kassi backs away, pawing with the jab. The heavyweights are throwing one, two punches at a time, making for a lack of action early. Kassi pops him with a short left hook as they come together. Arreola is unflinching, coming after the Cameroon native. They trade left hands late, but nothing comes of it. 10-9 Arreola.

Round 3

Kassi lands a nice one-two as Arreola chases him down. Arreola stalks him, tossing out the jab here and there, looking to unload a bomb. Kassi comes inside briefly and is nailed by a right uppercut. He take sit well and backs out of danger. Kassi starts landing some decent jabs at the midway point and suddenly Arreola isn’t as aggressively coming forward. Kassi lands a right to the body and has changed course; Arreola is now backing up. Kassi piles on the jabs and switches between southpaw and conventional a few times, confusing the Californian. 10-9 Kassi.

Round 4

Arreola storms out of his corner and smothers Kassi with shots to the head and body, but Kassi avoids most of the attacks. The explosion stops as Kassi goes back to the jab, but Arreola cracks him with a powerful overhand right, rocking him. Kassi quickly clears his head and returns to the jab. Arreola has stopped punching for the moment until Kassi tags him with a right to the face. Arreola comes back with an overhand right to the hand and then a nasty shot to the gut. Arreola stays on him and hurts him with another overhand right to the ear. Kassi stumbles back but is able to avoid the incoming fury. Arreola digs a thudding left to the body and Kassi folds over. He stays up but has to take another. Huge round for Arreola. 10-9 Arreola.

Round 5

Arreola stays aggressive early and backs Kassi into the ropes. “The Nightmare” lands a wicked left to the body, hurting his foe. Kassi escapes out the side and tries to regroup. Kassi gets his jab going again, stopping the charges of Arreola. A nice counter right hand from Arreola snaps Kassi’s head back but the New Orleans resident comes back with a left hook to the jaw. As they trade hooks to the body, their heads inadvertently come together. Luckily nobody is cut. Chris cracks Kassi with a powerful left hand and then a right, but Kassi comes back with a right of his own. Kassi closes out the frame with a slapping right hand to the cheek. Very close round. 10-9 Arreola.

Round 6

Kassi is the one who comes out of his corner with aggression, but he is unable to land anything clean. They clinch early and often. Kassi pops him with a right uppercut on the inside, but Arreola lands a counter left. Kassi delivers a nice one-two in the center of the ring. Another. Kassi is starting to find a rhythm again and he’s now walking Arreola back. With a minute left, Kassi lands a nice left hook. Arreola takes a step back and takes a deep breath. Kassi closes out the round jabbing Arreola from one side of the ring to the other. All Kassi. 10-9 Kassi.

Round 7

Arreola tries to re-assert himself but Kassi is in control with his jab and movement. Arreola digs a double left to the body and then one to the head, his best punches in a few rounds. Kassi goes back to the jab and lands a few decent shots to the face. Kassi ducks under a right and counters with a left hook to the jaw. Arreola is the one coming forward but he can’t get his shots off late. Arreola comes alive very late and lands a jab/right hand, but it’s not too powerful. Arreola goes to the body and then clinches, but Kassi lands two moderate left hands as they were separating. Arreola’s rally is not enough to steal the round. 10-9 Kassi.

Round 8

Kassi continues to control the distance with the jab, keeping the charging Arreola away. There is some bruising and swelling around Arreola’s left eye now. Kassi cracks him with a clean lead right hand before clinching. Kassi is warned for ducking his head too low. Arreola digs a nice left to the body, but Kassi takes it. Arreola is trying to make it a brawl but Kassi’s movement and jab work continues to prevent it. 10-9 Kassi.

Round 9

Kassi’s corner is telling him that he needs to win these last two rounds big. Arreola is trying to make Kassi brawl with him, but as usual, the Cameroonian won’t budge. Kassi continues to move well and jab but Arreola double up the left to the body before landing a nice overhand right. Hard left to the body/right to the head from Arreola, who suddenly has some life. With 80 seconds left, Chris crushes him with a brutal left to the body but Kassi isn’t fazed. Arreola gets inside and lands a right uppercut and then a left hook but Kassi’s chin is superb. Kassi lands a straight right with 10 seconds left and then a harder right to the dome at the bell. 10-9 Arreola.

Round 10

The outcome is likely in the air. Some of the rounds could have easily gone either way and whoever wins this round could win the fight. Arreola comes right after him but isn’t letting his hands fly. Kassi backs up, jabbing safely. Kassi is moving well and is keeping Arreola away early on. Arreola comes right after his foe, but walks into a loopy right hand. Arreola finally gets on the inside and forces a brawl for a few moments, but nothing lands cleanly from either man. Arreola lands a short left hook with a minute left, but it’s more glancing than anything. Kassi tosses out a few jabs but is caught by a left hook. Kassi counters with a sizzling one-two with 20 seconds left. Arreola storms after him with 10 seconds left and lets his hands go, landing only a few partial shots. Very close round. 10-9 Arreola (96-94 Arreola).

Carl Frampton vs. Alejandro Gonzalez Jr.

Round 1

Frampton rushes out of his corner, but balks when he meets Gonzalez, who jabs to the body. They trade left hooks along the ropes, but Frampton stumbles down onto his knee and glove. He’s correctly ruled down. He gets up and appears fine, but Gonzalez comes right after him. Frampton shows he’s clear and Gonzalez backs off. They trade hard lefts to the body at the midway point. Gonzalez goes low with the left but he has to take a right to the face for his effort. Right to the body from Frampton, who is really pressing the issue. Gonzalez tries to the throw a combo but Frampton nails him with the left to the head. The junior feathers again trade lefts to the body. Gonzalez digs a right and left to the gut and then floors Frampton with an overhand right to the temple. Frampton climbs to his feet and he is shaky, but he is saved by the bell. 10-7 Gonzalez.

Round 2

Frampton looks okay as the round starts; he comes right after Gonzalez. Frampton goes to the body twice before Gonzalez does. Gonzalez just misses with a huge overhand right but Frampton can’t make him pay. Frampton comes after him again and lands a few good shots to the head and body along the ropes. Gonzalez fires back, going to the groin by accident. After a brief pause, Frampton again comes right at the Mexican. Frampton ducks under a right cross and tags him with a double left hook, but Gonzalez counters with a right uppercut. Very good pace thus far. Gonzalez snaps his head back with a lead right hand, but Frampton answers with a nice left to the face. Gonzalez connects with a left hook at the bell. 10-9 Frampton.

Round 3

Gonzalez is warned for a low blow as soon as the round starts, his second warning. They come together and Gonzalez nails him to the body, dropping Frampton. It is ruled low (replays show it’s very low) and “Cobrita” is sternly warned. Frampton comes right back up and tries to tear into Gonzalez. Double jab/right to the face by the Irishman. Gonzalez comes back with a flurry, and Frampton obliges. They swing wildly toe-to-toe briefly before they clinch. Frampton triples up the jab after tasting a right hand. With just under a minute left, Frampton pops him with a stiff right hand. Double jab/right to the face again from the “Jackal” who has suddenly taken control of the fight. Hard left hook by Frampton with about 10 seconds left causes Gonzalez to back into the ropes. 10-9 Frampton.

Round 4

They meet in the center and trade some serious leather. Gonzalez backs off, allowing Frampton to double up the jab. Frampton backs up his foe and nails him with a sizzling right hand. Gonzalez comes back with a right to the face but Frampton walks through it. Gonzalez throws a double left hook but Frampton blocks it. He doesn’t block the follow-up right to the mouth, though. Jab/left hook by Frampton with just over a minute left. Gonzalez seems a bit confused now as he can’t get his punches off like he was earlier in the fight. Massive left hook rocks Gonzalez into the ropes with 30 seconds left, but the Mexican stays upright. Carl lands two nice jabs before the bell. 10-9 Frampton.

Round 5

They come right out and exchange heavy blows to the head and body. Gonzalez digs a nice left to the stomach before swallowing a left in return. Gonzalez lands a series of powerful jabs; he’s ramped up his power early. Frampton lands a glancing overhand right a minute in. Gonzalez is backing up, backs into the ropes, and takes a jab/right to the head. Gonzalez crushes another thudding shot to the body but Frampton is unfazed. The Irishman continues to stalk his foe, going to the head and body. A crisp left hook connects for Gonzalez before the bell. 10-9 Frampton.

Round 6

Gonzalez lands a nice left to the body and then a right to the head. Frampton backs his challenger up into the ropes and smacks him with a right to the jaw. Gonzalez moves away but has to take a few jabs. Gonzalez counters with the right hand and then goes low. Hard one-two by the “Jackal” snaps Gonzalez’ head back. He chases “Cobrita” with a hard double jab. Frampton is in total control as he lands a powerful overhand right. Beautiful left/right from Frampton couldn’t have been cleaner, but Gonzalez storms back with a left hook late. 10-9 Frampton.

Round 7

Gonzalez lands a borderline left hook to the body right away but he’s not warned. Frampton comes back with a double jab but his follow-up right misses. Gonzalez tags him with a nice right hand, but Frampton walks right through it. Frampton fakes the jab and connects with a nice right to the mouth. They collide in the center of the ring as they exchange lefts to the body. The action has slowed a little bit late in the round, but the crowd has begun cheering and chanting for “Cobrita” late. Junior Alejandro jabs to the body twice before the bell. 10-9 Frampton.

Round 8

Gonzalez ducks under a jab and tags Frampton with a right. The champ continues to jab away, controlling the action. Gonzalez digs a left to the body but misses with the right to the head. Frampton presses him into the ropes and unloads a nice three-punch combo. Gonzalez is unhurt, escapes, and then nails his opponent with a crushing right to the ribs. They exchange low blows and the ref warns both of them about going low too often. Hard right to the ear by Frampton with a minute left. Jab-jab-right to the dome from Frampton; Gonzalez misses wildly with a counter left hook. 10-9 Frampton.

Round 9

They stand toe-to-toe early until Gonzalez nails him with a powerful right hand to the jaw. They continue to trade but Gonzalez dishes out a left hook that’s clean. Frampton keeps coming after him but Gonzalez lands another nice right hand. They clinch and the action slows down a little. Frampton sticks a left to the ribs and then a right to the face. Gonzalez has slowed quite a bit with a minute left but Frampton isn’t taking advantage of it. They clinch a few times, likely looking to catch a breather. “Cobrita” lands another right hand late before eating a right in return. Close round and it was Gonzalez’ best since the first. 10-9 Gonzalez.

Round 10

Frampton takes a right to the stomach but answers with a double jab. Stiff left jab from Gonzalez forces Carl to take a few steps back. Frampton has resumed complete control with the multiple jabs, followed by a slick right hand. Gonzalez seems to have hit a wall as he’s not as active as he had been earlier in the contest. Frampton lands a nice right over the top with a minute left. Frampton tags him with a left hook and then a right uppercut. Gonzalez’s eyes are swelling up late. 10-9 Frampton.

Round 11

Frampton storms right out of his corner and quadruples the jab. Gonzalez isn’t desperate , though, and seems to have resorted to surviving until the final bell. Frampton slaps him a few more times with the jab but Gonzalez answers with a moderate overhand right. Gonzalez becomes a little busier midway through the frame, but he’s drilled by another loopy overhand right. Three-punch combo from the Irishman with about a minute left; Gonzalez has not response. Gonzalez goes low yet again and a point is finally taken away. Frampton tags him with another right to the cheek just before the bell. 10-8 Frampton.

Round 12

Gonzalez clearly needs a miraculous knockout in order to win this fight. Gonzalez is aggressive right away, coming after Frampton. Frampton nails him with a three-punch flurry but Gonzalez continues to press ahead. Frampton is backing up with the jab and sets a trap for that right hand. They trade right hands along the ropes but Carl’s is sharper. Gonzalez misses with what would have been a crushing right uppercut with 90 seconds left. Frampton pops him with a glancing overhand right and then clinches. Frampton flails away and lands a left hook. With 30 seconds left, Gonzalez doesn’t have the energy to go for broke. Frampton jabs and keeps a safe distance until the final bell. 10-9 Frampton.
