David Benavidez vs. Kevin Cobbs

Round 1

Raul Caiz Jr. is the referee for this eight-round super middleweight contest. Benavidez blocks a stiff jab as soon as the fight starts and then quickly applies a slow pressure. Cobbs is immediately on his bike, not yet willing to engage with his younger foe. Benavidez digs a left hook to the head and then a thudding left to the guts. Double left to the body, followed by a left to the head by the Phoenix fighter; Cobbs smiles at him. Benavidez is plodding right after his cautious foe, throwing his punches with everything behind them. Benavidez digs another left to the head-left to the body. Again. Cobbs appears to want none of it and is in a defensive shell almost exclusively. A right uppercut on the inside, followed by another vicious left hook to the ribcage. Nice left hook by Cobbs just before the bell, but Benavidez cracks him with a right and then a left to end the round. 10-9 Benavidez.

Round 2

Benavidez comes right after his opponent, digging lefts and rights to the head and body. Cobbs backs up into the ropes and is nailed by a double left to the head. His legs buckle and Benavidez is all over him. Cobbs scrambles out to his right to survive, but the young lion swarms him. Another massive left and ten a right, followed by a flurry and Caiz has no choice but to step in and halt the mugging.

Malcolm McAllister vs. Tyrone Selders

Round 1

McCallister comes out with a pair of jabs in this swing bout, keeping a safe distance for now. Selders comes in with a right and left, but he’s laced by a nasty right to the jaw, followed by a left-right and he is already in peril. He stumbles and his glove touches the canvas and Zachary Young calls him down. He continues, but he swinging for the fences, looking to keep McCallister off. McCallister tears into him with reckless abandon, rocking the opponent routinely. Selders hangs tough and fires back and now it’s an all-out war. McCallister nails him several more times but the Baton Rouge fighter is tough as hell. A right to the head rocks McCallister, who is bleeding above the right eye from what appears to be a clash of heads. At the end of the round, the action subsides, but it’s already a barnburner. 10-8 McCallister.

Round 2

McCallister tosses out a few jabs but Selders jumps in and looks to make it a slugfest. McCallister backs off, looking to keep a safer distance. Nice left hook to the head by McCallister, who follows it with a sizzling right over the top. Selders backs off now and he’s eating jabs. Selders comes alive with some shots to the head and body, but a nasty right uppercut on the inside wobbles his legs. They clinch briefly but Selders is able to clear his head. McCallister continues to fire off that left jab late in the round. A hard right to the pie hole at the bell for McCallister, who seemingly can’t miss any of his shots. 10-9 McCallister.

Round 3

McCallister storms out of his corner and cracks his foe with a right and left to the head, followed by another right. Selders takes them well and he punches back, but his punches have no zip on them. A hard tight to the body from McCallister, but Selders counters with a right cross on the inside. They stand forehead-to-forehead, slugging it out in the center of the ring. Selders nails him with a pair of rights that back up the undefeated fighter up. A huge left hook-right cross by McCallister with a minute left, but Selders is somehow still standing. He fires back and an all-out war breaks out. They go toe-to-toe but a vicious left to the body, followed by a right to head stiffens Selders. He’s against the ropes and rocked, so McCallister blasts him with a monster of a left hook. Selders is about to go when another crushing right and then left connect, forcing Young to finally step in to end a terrific war.

Caleb Plant vs. Adasat Rodriguez

Round 1

Thomas Taylor is our referee for this middleweight attraction. Plant comes out with a few jabs, as does his Spanish foe. Rodriguez takes a left hook to the head nicely, but can’t fire back in time. Plant jabs twice to the body before going with a combo downstairs and up. Rodriguez eats a check hook a minute in. A few sizzling jabs and then another check hook from Plant, but Rodriguez is game. A clash of heads opens a cut above Rodriguez’ left eye but he’s cleared to continue. Rodriguez is very aggressive and chasing after Plant, who is easily avoiding everything. Adasat is bleeding profusely at the end of the round. 10-9 Plant.

Round 2

Rodriguez misses a pair of wild right hooks, allowing Plant to counter with a few jabs. Plant is showboating a little now, dropping his hands and moving out of the way of the Spaniard’s charges. A left hook by Caleb knocks out Rodriguez’ mouthpiece out but the ref puts it back in. Plant digs a left to the body and then makes his foe miss several return punches. Left hook to the body, followed by one to the head by Caleb, who is in total control of the bout. Plant continues to showboat between left hooks to the body and head. 10-9 Plant.

Round 3

Plant digs a few jabs to the body to start the frame. Adasat walks into a four-punch combo but he takes it well. Rodriguez tags him with a left and right upstairs, but they are more glancing than anything. Plant continues to stuff his jab down his foe’s throat, backed up by lefts to the body. Rodriguez is bleeding a little more now as he blindly follows the American around the ring. A stiff jab by Caleb behind a left hook to the jaw. Rodriguez is undaunted, though, as he continues to come forward. They trade jabs at the bell. 10-9 Plant.

Round 4

Plant sticks his jab out there routinely, but Rodriguez pops his foe with a nice left hook. Plants walks through it, but he takes another clean left to the grill. Plant retaliates with a flurry to the head and body before resetting. Nice counter right to the face by Caleb at the midway point. Plant lands a slick one-two to the head before escaping a wild volley from the Spaniard. Plant sticks him with a lead left hook but Rodriguez storms back with a right-left to the stomach. 10-9 Plant.

Round 5

Plant busts out of his corner with a jab and then slams a combo to his foe’s head. Rodriguez backs into the ropes and Plant unloads another flurry. He can’t crash anything worthwhile before the Spaniard escapes out to his right. A beautiful stiff jab from the American again, keeping Rodriguez away. Plant is elusive as ever, making his adversary miss almost everything for a full minute. Caleb goes back to the jab again and again before popping Adasat with a sweet check hook. 10-9 Plant.

Round 6

A pair of jabs and then a left hook from Plant starts it off. Rodriguez comes back with an attack, but it falls short before Plant nails him again. Another flurry from Caleb knocks Adasat’s mouthpiece out a second time and the ref warns him. A lead right and then a double left hook by Plant with the midway point, but Rodriguez takes it well. Plant showboats a little more after making his foe miss. They slug it out but Plant rocks Rodriguez with a huge left hook. He stumbles into the ropes and Plant is there to unload. A pair of lefts bounce off the Spaniard’s head and Taylor immediately jumps in and calls off the fight. Rodriguez angrily protests, to no avail.

Jamal James vs. Javier Molina

Round 1

Thomas Taylor is the referee once again in this welterweight main event. The two start quickly as they trade jabs repeatedly early on. James is sticking his jab out there more frequently, but Molina’s is heavier. Molina digs a right to the body but James is unfazed and goes right back to his jab. A double jab-right cross by James, but Molina pops him with a counter left to the ribs, sending “Shango” into the ropes. James is okay and goes right back to his jab. James catches Molina with a right coming in, followed by a left hook to the body. Molina eats a jab late before missing a flurry. A nice right at the bell from James. 10-9 James.

Round 2

The two welters trade jabs immediately, but Molina’s seems harder. A slick one-two from Jamal, but Molina walks right through it. “El Intocable” comes forward, looking to trade with his more elusive foe. James keeps it away with his jab, but Molina is aggressive. James cracks him with a sizzling lead right at the midway point. Javier digs a left downstairs before going up top. Swift left uppercut-right cross by Jamal with 40 seconds left. Molina blocks a four-punch combo late but can’t return the fire. Finally, Molina lands a decent left hook to the head and then closes out the frame with a double left to the jaw. 10-9 James.

Round 3

James fires off a series of jabs to start the stanza. Molina stays back, trying to get past the sudden tempest of jabs. James ducks low on the inside, allowing Molina to pop him with a right and left, followed by a left hook. Javier gets inside with a double left hook but he swallows a right cross for his effort. Molina backs away, giving Jamal enough space to reel off a few more jabs. The welters swing wildly with 45 seconds left but nothing comes from it. James cracks his foe with a left hook but Molina walks right through it. Molina misses a pair of wild right hooks and then a left. Another extremely close round. 10-9 Molina.

Round 4

James pops off a series of jabs early, keeping the shorter former Olympian away. Jamal lands an errant right to the head but stumbles forward. Molina catches him with a right of his own, but there’s nothing on it. James corrects himself and blasts his opponent with a three-punch combo at the midway point. Nice jab to the body, followed by a right-left through the guard by James. They exchange sweeping right hooks with 45 seconds left. James is moving well behind the jab while Molina stalks him down, looking to brawl. 10-9 James.

Round 5

The welters paw with a plethora of jabs early before their heads come together. Thankfully neither man is hurt. Molina closes the gap and nails the lankier man with a hard left hook on the inside. James pops him with a one-two but Molina comes back with a left to the head and body. James doubles up the left to the guts before resetting the action with his jab. Molina lunges in and tags his foe with a loopy overhand right, but James shakes it off. Jamal digs a pair of rights to the stomach with 45 seconds left. A couple of jabs from Jamal late, but Molina lands a glancing overhand right at the bell. 10-9 James.

Round 6

James kicks off the frame with a series of jabs and slick footwork. Molina misses a right and then a left, walking into a pair of jabs in the process. Jamal is boxing beautifully now, keeping the ’08 Olympian away with his long reach. A three-punch combo to the head, punctuated by a sizzling right. Molina is looking frustrated now as he chases James with single punches. James has seized complete control of the action with his jab. With a minute left, Molina drills him with a right to the head, but he doesn’t follow it up with anything. James retaliates with a right of his own. “Shango” goes back to the jab and regains control of the tussle. 10-9 James.

Round 7

James opens the round with his jab yet again. Molina walks after his man slowly, winding up with single shots. Molina walks into a straight right, but he answers with a double left on the inside. Hard one-two to the face by James and Molina backs up into the ropes. James smothers his own shots, allowing Molina to clear his head and escape. Molina goes to the body with a right but he swallows another pair of jabs. Molina backs away and is lasered by a right through the guard with under a minute left. On the inside, Javier pops him with a left to the head, but it’s more of a slap than anything. 10-9 James.

Round 8

Per the norm, James keeps the smaller man away with the jab. Molina ducks down to get inside but he’s clubbed by a right. Molina misses a wild left hook after he’s jabbed a few times a minute into the frame. A left connects for James and Molina is now cut around his right eye. “Shango” is keeping a near-perfect distance with the jab. Molina walks right into a left hook but he takes it well. Javier tags him with a right but he eats another stiff jab for his effort. One-two for Jamal with 30 seconds left. Hard left-right to the head for Jamal late, his best combo in several rounds. He goes to the body and Molina is starting to wear down. It’s all James late. 10-9 James.

Round 9

Molina meets a succession of jabs early as he tries to get inside. Molina continues to load up with single shots but he eats a loopy overhand right. Again, Javier is unfazed but it’s beginning to look like he needs a miracle to win this thing. James continues to overwhelm him with a storm of jabs, keeping a safe distance. Molina can do nothing at this juncture as he continues to absorb jabs and counter lefts. 10-9 James.

Round 10

Molina clearly needs a knockout in order to win. He doesn’t dart out of his corner in desperation. Rather, he stands in front of the taller man and bats away a series of jabs. James is keeping Molina away intelligently, easily avoiding Javier’s single power shots. Molina lands a left hook but there’s nothing on it. James isn’t taking any chances as he continues to fire off that jab behind that movement of his. With a minute left, Molina needs to go for broke but he remains stagnant. A jab, followed by a right to the body by James. With 30 seconds left, Molina wakes up and tries to swarm Jamal, but the lanky Minnesotan keeps him away. 10-9 James.
