Jorge Lara vs. Jesus Rojas

Round 1

Lara comes right out with his southpaw jab and right hook. Rojas backs off, keeping distance. Double jab to the shoulder by Lara, who follows it up with a left. They trade lefts to the head. Rojas digs a right to the body but he eats a double left to the ribs. Nice jab by Lara at the midway point backs Rojas up. Double jab/right hook to the head by Lara but he’s countered by a left. Nice uppercut to the body/right hook to the head by the Puerto Rican. Rojas comes back with a slick right to the face. Right/left to the body by Lara late and then another right hook up top. Good round for both. 10-9 Lara.

Round 2

Nice straight left to the head by Rojas after he swallowed a few jabs early. Now it’s Lara backing up as Rojas stalks him down. Lara just misses with a massive counter right hook and he’s countered by a stiff jab. The Mexican digs a sweet left/right to the guts but Lara tags him with a nice right hook to the cheek. Another right to the head backs up Rojas and he seems a little shaken, but Lara doesn’t go after him. Left uppercut from Lara is blocked but hit follow-up right hook to the face isn’t. Rojas takes it well, though. Rojas walks forward, smothering Lara’s jabs. Rojas ducks under a loopy right hook and pops him with a left/right to the body. Lara fires back with a jab and right hook to the head. Very close round. 10-9 Lara.

Round 3

Lara shoots right in with a pair of hard right uppercuts as soon as Rojas clinches. Huge right cross from Rojas misses by a foot and Lara makes him pay with a sizzling right to the body/right to the head. Lara hooks to the body and then to the head. Their heads come together in a clinch and Lara is cut by it. They clash heads again. When they resume, Lara misses with two wild right hooks. Rojas misses a huge right cross and then Lara misses with an even wilder left hook. The cut above Lara’s right eye is starting to bleed badly with 45 seconds left; the cut’s in a bad spot. Big right hand by Rojas but Lara tags him with one in return. Jab to the face by Rojas, who is very relaxed in there while Lara seems distracted by the cut. Good exchange at the bell. Very close round. 10-9 Rojas.

Round 4

Right to head by Lara starts the round, but Rojas counters with a right to the body/left hook to the dome. Lara’s cut is under control early, but he’s swinging with conviction. Rojas fires off a few jabs and then a straight right to the nose. They come together, but Lara stumbles all the way down onto his back. Lara is growing more and more frustrated at the midway point while Rojas is a cool cucumber in there. They clinch and Lara points to his head, trying to force a warning for a clash of heads. Rojas looks to his left and smiles. Lara nails him with a jab but Rojas counters with a lead right to the neck. Lara digs a wild right to the ribs and then a left upstairs. A pair of jabs by Rojas ends the round. 10-9 Rojas.

Round 5

Lara quintuples the jab before digging a nasty hook to the body. Rojas stumbles forward and is nailed by a loopy right hook. Rojas steadies himself and fires off a pair of jabs. They clinch and Lara drills him with a sharp uppercut through the guard. Straight left/right hook by Lara but Rojas walks right through it. A few jabs from Rojas re-opens the cut above the Puerto Rican’s eye. Hard straight left to the face by Lara, but he’s nailed by a lead right in return. They come together again and now Lara is cut above his left eye. Referee Jack Reiss rules it from a butt, not a punch. Rojas tags him with a left hook and Lara’s cuts are pouring blood late. Rojas crushes his body with a left and right and then lands a decent left hook to the forehead. 10-9 Rojas.

Round 6

Between rounds, Lara’s cut on his right eyelid is gruesome. Reiss has the ringside doctor look at it but he’s allowed to continue. Lead left by Lara misses by mere inches, allowing Rojas to pop him with a jab. Lara backs off and has to eat a few more jabs. Lara clinches as soon as he swallows another jab. Lara goes to the body and then the head with the right. At the midway point, Lara is very frustrated and seems to be slowing down. He’s having difficulty seeing out his right eye and he continually paws at it. Rojas stays calm, jabbing and moving. Lara misses with a wild right hook and then a left, allowing Rojas to counter him. Rojas picks up the pace and slams a left hook behind two jabs. Another jab. It’s all Rojas late but Lara isn’t quitting. Short right hook by Lara at the bell. 10-9 Rojas.

Round 7

The doctor is looking at the horrible cut on Lara’s eye. That’s it. It’s waived off. Lara can’t see and the cut really is a nasty one. Good call to stop it. The fight will go to the scorecards since the cuts came from head clashes and it’s after the fourth round.

Austin Trout vs. Joey Hernandez

Round 1

The two southpaws comes out slowly with a few jabs. Trout tosses out a few more jabs and then slams a left hook to the body. Trout jabs to the body and the head a few times. Hernandez isn’t doing much, other than eating jabs and missing with his. Hernandez throws a double right hook with a minute left but they are both blocked. Left uppercut to the head and then a left cross by Trout. Austin tags him with a stinging right/left to the head late. Straight left at the bell through the guard at the bell by Trout. 10-9 Trout.

Round 2

Hernandez is a little more assertive early but his right hooks miss. Trout stays with the jab, looking to counter. Left uppercut to the body, right hook to the head by Trout. Triple jab by “No Doubt” keeps the shorter Hernandez at bay. Very little action with a minute left, but Trout is in complete control with the jab. Trout goes with the hook a few times late, landing them. Hernandez walks through them but he’s getting tagged quite a bit. 10-9 Trout.

Round 3

Trout is patient before he tags his foe with a jab and then left to the body. Trout continues to counter and move behind the jab. Another left to the body for Austin, who is getting little resistance in return. Right hook/double jab/right hook by Trout, who is in complete control. Nice left to the body followed by a right hook; Hernandez shimmies and dances, claiming he’s not affected by it. Nice right hook to the chin by Trout late, but Joey storms back with a right hook to the head of his own. They clinch as soon as Hernandez finds some life and throws several punches. 10-9 Trout.

Round 4

Trout backs Hernandez up with the jab early. They clinch and Hernandez scoops Trout up and completely body slams Trout down hard onto his back. Jack Reiss immediately deducts a point. Reiss is not playing around and is threatening further action. They resume and Trout comes right after him, landing several jabs and lefts to the head. They slow down and Trout slugs a few shots to the belly. Overhand left by Trout lands cleanly, but Hernandez take sit well. Hernandez is pressing forward but Trout keeps on pestering him with the jab and right hook. They exchange jabs but Trout whacks him with a left to the ribs and then a right hook to the head. Double jab/straight left by Trout late. Left to the guts by Hernandez at the bell but it’s all Trout. 10-8 Trout.

Round 5

Trout tags him with a few jabs and then closes the gap with a flurry. Hernandez ties him up and thinks about scooping him again, but opts not to. Hernandez’ face is reddened from all the jabs he’s taken. At the midway point, Austin continues to rake his foe with jabs and lefts to the body. Hard left to the body again by trout and Hernandez is backing up quite a bit with 45 seconds left. Austin goes low again with the left and then with the right. Hernandez needs to start doing something here because he is way down on the cards already. 10-9 Trout.

Round 6

Much the same to start the sixth, with Trout peppering him with jabs. Hernandez can’t do anything as he tries to get inside at times. Hernandez, though, keeps backing up as Trout lands jab after jab. Hard right hook to the body from Trout and Joey grimaces. They trade blows and Hernandez slips off-balance, onto his back. It’s ruled a slip. Hernandez takes a hard left/right to the head; he’s breathing heavily now. Right/left to the head from Trout. A follow-up left to the head rocks Hernandez. Trout digs a wicked left/right to the body and Joey doubles over. A sinister right to the gut forces Hernandez to crumble onto his knees. He is in terrible pain and can’t catch his breath. Joey struggles to his feet as Reiss reaches the count of 10, ending the fight.
