Eleider Alvarez vs. Isidro Ranoni Prieto

Round 1

Alvarez comes right out and swings away at his foe. Prieto obliges and trades with him until they split to reset. They trade hard rights to the head but each man is unfazed. Prieto paws a few times with the left jab and then misses a wild overhand right. Alvarez backs up, sticking his jab out, looking to set up the straight right. Prieto lands a decent overhand right, but it’s nothing to cause concern to Alvarez. Alvarez pushes out two jabs and then is hit with a loopy right to the top of the head. He takes it well and throws a right of his won. Alvarez misses a left but lands his right, but Preito storms back with a powerful overhand right. It lands cleanly and Alvarez stutter-steps back to the ropes just as the bell ends the round. 10-9 Prieto

Round 2

Prieto misses with another overhand right to start the frame. Alvarez is a little timid early, backing off when his opponent flicks out the jab. Alvarez sticks him with a jab and then makes him miss a left hook. They clinch briefly and proceed to tear into each other’s body. Prieto launches another overhand right, but it’s easily blocked. Alvarez paws with the jab a few times but there’s nothing behind them. Alvarez lands a solid right to the body, left to the head just before the bell.

Round 3

Alvarez is slightly more aggressive to start the third but his right/left misses. Prieto continues to search for that right hand, but he’s telegraphing it, allowing Alvarez to see it coming from kilometers away. Alvarez is tossing out harder jabs at the midway point and he seems to be getting into a rhythm. Prieto backs Alvarez into a corner and unloads a flurry to the head and body, but Alvarez blocks most of the shots. Prieto separates and then dishes out another overhand right, but this one lands. Alvarez freezes briefly but he comes right back with a combo to the head and body. Prieto might have won the round with that late surge.

Round 4

Prieto misses with two wild rights to the head as soon as the round starts. Alvarez sets the pace with his jab but Prieto forces him into the ropes and digs several blows to the body. Alvarez scoots out to his left, but Prieto goes back to the body and then follows it up with a left hook. They trade blows along the ropes but Alvarez pops him with an overhand right. Prieto answers with a carbon copy of that shot. Another nice right by Alvarez is clean, but Prieto comes right after him. A right appears to drop Prieto late but it’s ruled a slip.

Round 5

Replays show Prieto slipped before he was tagged, so good call by Michael Griffin. Alvarez opens the round with a series of jabs and he’s slowly seizing control of the pace. Prieto comes right after his foe and throws two overhand rights, but they are both blocked. Alvarez ducks under another volley of rights and digs two shots to the gut. Alvarez blocks a jab with his face and proceeds to nail the Argentinean with a right. Prieto is having a difficult time in cutting off the ring. He walks straight forward, throwing loopy rights. A nice lead right to the face stuns Prieto late but he storms back with a right of his own.

Round 6

Alvarez is moving well behind the jab, keeping Prieto away. Prieto is able to tag him with a left hook and it’s clean. Alvarez comes right back with a combo to the head and body, prompting a terse, wild exchange. Alvarez doubles the jab but is rocked by a clean right to the jaw. His knees buckle but Prieto misses with the follow-up right. Alvarez is hurt badly and clinches, dragging he and his foe to the canvas. They are up and the short delay allows him to clean out the cobwebs. With 25 seconds left, Prieto lands a left/right to the head.

Round 7

Alvarez looks clear-headed going into the seventh as he fires off a few stiff jabs. Prieto is trying to land that right hand repeatedly, but Alvarez is playing it safe with footwork and the jab. Alvarez continues to rifle out that jab, keeping Prieto at bay. Prieto misses with the right but his left to the stomach doesn’t. Alvarez momentarily turns into a statue, allowing the Argentinean to club away at the body and then the head. Alvarez wakes up and nails him with a more jabs. Prieto stumbles forward with a flurry, but he’s tagged by a counter right to the ear just as the bell sounds. 10-9 Alvarez

Round 8

Prieto digs a right to the ribs, but he’s hit with a counter right to the forehead in return. Nice right cross by the Paraguayan out of a clinch, and then a left to the head. Prieto continues to try and get inside, but Alvarez won’t allow it. Alvarez sticks with the jab and then rakes his foe’s side with an uppercut. Alvarez lands two more jabs and then a right to the body. Prieto is starting to slow down with a minute left, but he’s still looking to end the fight with his overhand right. Alvarez cracks him with another right cross off a break and Prieto looks worn out. Prieto dangles his arms to his sides, but Alvarez isn’t falling for the trap; he stays with the jab. 10-9 Alvarez

Round 9

Alvarez stalks Prieto early, landing that stiff jab repeatedly. Prieto is backing up, trying to get back on track. Nice counter left hook off the jab for Alvarez, who has taken complete control of the bout. Prieto lunges in with the right, but it’s easily blocked. Prieto is keeping his hands very low quite a bit now, but it’s mostly likely due to fatigue. Prieto gets inside, but Alvarez snaps his head back with a slick right uppercut. Right/left from Alvarez grazes Preito’s chin with a minute left. Prieto returns the favor with a right of his own, but there’s nothing behind it. Prieto continues to walk forward and eats a nice jab/right cross for his effort. They trade blows for the final five seconds of the round.

Round 10

Prieto fires off two jabs to start the round, but Alvarez shrugs them olff. Alvarez pops him with a few jabs and then an overhand right. Prieto sneaks a right uppercut on the chin of his foe, but he takes it. Alavrez lands a series of jabs and then closes the gap, going forehead-to-forehead, digging lefts and rights to the body. Prieto is fading badly and trying to get his groove going at the midway point. Alvarez stuffs his jab down Prieto’s pie hole over and over and then nails him with a vicious uppercut with 40 seconds left. Crisp overhand right to the head, following an uppercut from Alvarez just before the bell.

Round 11

Prieto lands a sweeping overhand right, but he’s drilled by a beautiful counter right cross and then a nasty right to the gut. Prieto backs off and when he comes back inside, he is clobbered by a series of thundering body shots. Prieto doubles over and is about to go, but he stays upright by backing off. Alvarez stalks him down, landing a few hard jabs and then another two shots downstairs. Prieto is throwing slow, telegraphed punches as his energy is depleting. Alvarez isn’t taking too many chances, though; he stays in the pocket with the jab and cross. Prieto isn’t backing down, though, as he continues to try and end the fight with his powerful right hand.

Round 12

Prieto most likely needs a knockout to win this one, or at least a few knockdowns. Alvarez has the look of a killer as the round starts, while Prieto doesn’t. A nice double jab from Alvarez lands but Prieto fires back with a volley of rights and lefts, though they are blocked. Alvarez digs a menacing right to the body, but Prieto fires back with an overhand right. At the midway point, Prieto needs to go for broke. Alvarez goes with the jab some more, but they have bad intentions on them. Prieto misses an overhand right and Alvarez clinches. With 45 seconds left, Prieto goes to the body but Alvarez does the same, but with more power behind it. Prieto finally lets his hands fly, letting it all out with 25 seconds left. Alvarez covers up and then grabs him. Prieto misses a wild overhand right just as the bell ends the fight. 10-9 Prieto

Lucian Bute vs. Andrea Di Luisa

Round 1

Di Luisa comes right after Bute with a series of jabs, but none of them land flush. Bute goes with his jab as well. Di Luisa is active early on, going to the head and body but his punches at this point are more of the pesky variety. Bute is very relaxed from his southpaw stance, looking for the moment to strike. Nice right/left by Bute at the midway point but Di Luisa takes it. Di Luisa lands a decent straight right to the head and then a left hook. Di Luisa continues to flick a mosquito-like jab out there, trying to keep Bute away. Bute lands a glancing left hook at the bell, just after taking a right/left to the body. Very close round but Di Luisa’s activity got it.

Round 2

Di Luisa goes right back to his pesky jab while Bute looks for an opening. They trade jabs until Bute cracks him with a left to the stomach. Bute lands a series of jabs to the body and then one to the head. Lead left by the local fighter is partially blocked at the midway point. Bute is starting to warm up little by little with about 45 seconds left. Di Luisa continues to flick his jab out there, but he has nothing on his punches. Nice right/left by Bute late but Di Luisa blocked most of them. They trade rights at the bell.

Round 3

Di Luisa lands a nice left/right to the head right as the round begins. Di Luisa goes back to his jab but he takes a glancing left to the face. There is some swelling underneath Di Luisa’s right eye early on. Bute delivers a left to the body but his follow-up left to the head misses. Di Luisa misses with a left hook but his straight right lands through the guard. Di Luisa stays right in his face, tossing out rights and lefts but there is absolutely no power on anything. Bute counters his minor flurry with a right hook up top, but the Italian is unfazed. Nice right uppercut from Di Luisa but Bute cracks him with a counter left. Bute goes with the uppercut and Di Luisa clearly felt it. Double jab/straight left at the bell from Bute defines the round.

Round 4

Di Luisa goes back to his jab but Bute counters with a nice right hook on this inside. Bute fires off a few jabs but his left behind it misses. Bute has found his rhythm and lands a few jabs. A double jab and then a double left hook but from Bute, the second one landing hard on Di Luisa’s jaw. He is down and hurt. He gets up at eight and is allowed to continue but he is in serious trouble. Bute closes in and swarms him, unloading shots to the body and head. All Di Luisa can do is cover up and try to survive, but Bute is all over him. His corner throws in the towel and referee Steve St. Germain pulls Bute off him, ending the route.
