Smealinho Rama vs. Ronny Markes

Round 1

Josh Rutgers is the referee for this light heavyweight matchup, the first-ever bout in the history of Professional Fighters League. They circle early and trade low kicks to begin the fight. Rama goes a bit higher as he slams his shin into Markes’ ribs. Both men stay on the outside as they feel each other out, but Makes shoots in and scores an easy takedown. Rama easily sweeps the Brazilian and lands on top in half guard. Markes powers his way back to his feet, but Rama creates some space and tags him with a left high kick and a left hook. Markes shakes them both off but he eats a few more kicks to the gut. Rama slowly stalks his foe behind a lazy jab before firing a straight left through the guard. Markes remains coy as he backs away, not letting his hands go before getting tied up against the cage. Rama tosses out a push kick to the chin, but it just falls short. Markes delivers a vicious low kick with 45 seconds left. Markes backs off and slips on a wet ad logo, but Rama doesn’t capitalize. An exchange of punches breaks out and Ronny ducks lock for a knee bar but misses at the bell. 10-9 Rama

Round 2

Rama opens the second round by pressuring the Brazilian backward, tossing out a few kicks and jabs. The combatants slip on the canvas again and time is called to have some officials dry off the cage and the light heavies’ feet. When the fight resumes, Markes throws a right high kick but the Canadian blocks it. Rama lands a sweeping left hook, but it’s not entirely clean on the jaw. The two clinch, which leads to a textbook outside leg trip from Markes, Upon landing, Markes lands in mount, but Rama is quick to recover to half guard. Markes is not aggressive while on top, eschewing strikes for better position. Rama tries to explode out from the bottom but he misses his sweep, getting mounted for his effort. Again, Rama slither back and recovers to half guard, but Markes is not active on top. Markes finally lands a few punches to Rama’s head, but they aren’t vicious. After several scrambles, Markes changes from half guard to mount to full guard and then back to mount. 10-9 Markes

Round 3

They trade meager jabs when the round begins, but Rama tags him with a nice left hook to the melon. The 205-ers clinch, which leads to a powerful takedown for Markes, who lands on top in half guard. The Canadian is able to recover to full guard, but Markes is all over him with moderate punches and elbows. With very little happening at the midway point, Rama needs to figure out a way to get to his feet. Markes is doing just enough on top to prevent a restart from the ref, though he’s not inflicting any real damage. Finally, the ref stands them up with a minute remaining. Rama, who needs to go for broke, opts to back away. The Canadian lets his hands go eventually, tagging the Brazilian with a loopy left and right upstairs. They clinch against the cage , but nothing happens by the time the clock runs out. 10-9 Markes

The Official Result

Round 1

Josh Rutgers once again is the referee for this lightweight bout. Fodor lands a modest left hook as soon as the fight begins, but they tie up as soon as it lands. They scramble and High scores a takedown and lands on top. The Kansas City fighter goes for an arm-triangle, but Fodor fends it off well. The submission is lost, but High is all over him from on top in half guard. High peppers his opponent with a series of left hands, cutting Fodor above his left eye. Fodor scrambles again and is able to recover to full guard, but High continues to rain down the punches. High continues to be relentless from on top but Fodor is able to explode to his feet. High quickly seizes his foe’s back and drags him back down. Fodor rolls over and escapes the back mount, but High stays close and locks in a tight guillotine. It’s not tight enough, though, and Fodor escapes. Fodor is doing everything he can to get back to his feet and he does, though High continues to press into him, pinning the Washington native into the cage. 10-9 High

Round 2

High comes out of his corner and pops Fodor with a left-right to the head. Fodor looks to counter, but High changes levels and easily scores a powerful double-leg takedown. Fodor explodes back up to his feet but the wrestler continues to press into him. Fodor accidentally cracks High in the groin and time is called. Fodor misses a high kick when the fight resumes, which allows High to shoot in again. Fodor sprawls nicely this time and prevents it, though the Kansas native is relentless. As soon as they get back to their feet, Fodor scores a takedown of his own and lands on top in half guard. High seems to be tiring out as Fodor tries to pass to his left. However, High recovers to full guard. Very little happens from this position and the ref implores them to work. High finally kicks his foe away and scrambles back to his feet. Jason pursues his adversary and shoots in for another takedown, but misses. High forces Fodor into the cage while he has his back, but he can’t bring him down. Finally, just as Fodor tries a spinning elbow, High Slams him back down against the cage and that’s where the round end. 10-9 High.

Round 3

Fodor needs to think of something here in the final round because he’s down two rounds to zip. High lands a lead left as soon as the frame begins. Fodor backs off to regroup but then changes direction and comes right at his foe. High shoots in but Fodor is wise and easily thwarts it. High turtles as he latches onto Fodor’s left leg; Caros lands scattered punches to his rival’s ribs from on top. They struggle back up and High, who is bleeding, presses Fodor into the cage. Very little action is happening but the ref is not standing them back up. High finally relents on the single-leg attempt and rolls over to pull guard. Fodor lands scattered punches from on top, before switching to elbows. Fodor looks to pass to the side but High tries an oma plata. He runs out of time. 10-9 Fodor

Foster slams a right to the forehead and then backs off. Fitch shoots in for a takedown but falls into a guillotine. Foster pulls guard and looks for the finish, but Fitch wriggles his head free. Foster is looking for a sweep to get back to his feet, but the Indiana native is steady on top. Foster rolls out and locks in an armor attempt and it’s tight. Fitch is able to break from from the arm lock and then dives right back on top of Foster. Fitch is working some punches down while in his foe’s open guard, doing just enough damage to keep them from being restarted. Foster thinks armor again, but Fitch refuses to allow it. Fitch is grinding Foster up against the cage, nullifying any sort of sweep with punches and elbows from inside his foe’s guard. 10-9 Fitch

Round 2

Foster opens the frame with a spinning kick to the gut, but he slips upon completion on the damp canvas. A left-right to the face drops Fitch, who quickly turtles up. Fitch is cut and has to fight for his life out of a guillotine. When Fitch escapes, Foster tags him a few more times with punches, forcing Fitch to turtle up again. The scramble and Foster forces has foe to stand. Foster unleashes a wild right uppercut from way far out and a follow-up left partially lands. Fitch drops down again, still woozy, but Foster inexplicably allows Fitch to reverse position and wind up on top. Foster thinks armor again from the bottom but misses it as Fitch crushes him down with all of his weight. Foster scrambles over to turtle and when Fitch lands on top, Foster taps out, though the angle prevents a view of the finish. Replays show that Fitch locked on a bulldog choke from the side and forced the tap.

Terrado is mauling Zeferino now, who is breathing heavily on his back. “The Titan” is raining punches and elbows down from top position at the midway point, but Zeferino is able to weather the storm and tie up his opponent’s right arm. Terrado slams a left fist into Zeferino’s face and then stands back up, only to launch another left onto his rival on the way back down. Terrado stands back up and wades through a series of upkicks, before diving bak down onto Zeferino. Terrado misses a sloppy downward punch and winds up in Zeferino’s guard with 40 second left. Terrado rolls in an attempt to escape and then springs back to his feet. Zeferino is gassed out completely and eats a few punches before being pressed into the cage at the midway point. Terrado slams a right into the Brazilian’s belly and then drops down for a double-leg attempt. Zeferino is fending him off as both fighters’ gas tanks are depleted at this point. They separate with 90 seconds remaining, but the Guam native opts to clinch and force his foe into the cage. They split up again - briefly - before they clinch against the cage.
