Pulver Gets New Opponent, Drops to 140 for Titan FC 18

Onetime UFC lightweight titleholder Jens Pulver will square off with Strikeforce and Bellator veteran Brian Davidson in a 140-pound catchweight bout at Titan Fighting Championship 18, the promotion announced Wednesday.

Davidson (Pictured) takes the place of Pulver’s original opponent, Mike Powell, who was pulled from the card last week by the Kansas Athletic Commission due to suffering a knockout loss to Josh Rave in North Dakota on April 23.

The Pulver-Davidson matchup will headline Titan FC 18, which emanates from Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., on May 27 and will be televised on HDNet. Also slated for the bill is a middleweight tilt pitting Drew McFedries against Darryl Cobb, as well as a welterweight scrap between Rory Markham and Rudy Bears.

Davidson, 35, will emerge from a brief retirement in order to face Pulver on short notice.

“Brian retired from active competition last year in order to focus on his duties as the head trainer at K2L/Grindhouse MMA,” Titan Fighting CEO Joe Kelly stated in a release. “However, the offer to fight a legend in this sport on HDNet was too much for Brian to pass up.”

The former tae kwon do champion last saw action in October, when he knocked Shane Hutchinson unconscious in just 54 seconds at Bellator 32. The win snapped a two-fight losing skid for Davidson, who has gone the distance only twice in nine professional bouts and has secured five of his six wins by knockout.

Pulver, 36, busted a severe losing streak of his own this year. After dropping six straight outings from 2008 to 2010, “Little Evil” reversed his fortunes with a 49-second rear-naked choke submission of Mike Lindquist in January. Pulver followed that with a March 5 split decision over Wade Choate under the Chicago Cagefighting Championship. Once a student of Pat Miletich, Pulver currently trains with fellow WEC vet Jeff Curran’s Team Curran in Crystal Lake, Ill.
