Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts promotion Resurrection Fighting Alliance announced Wednesday a return to California with another card that will be air live on AXS-TV on Dec. 11. RFA 33 will be headlined by a lightweight tilt between Adam Townsend and Ernest Chavez and will be held at the Hangar at the O.C. Fair Event Center in Costa Mesa.
Townsend has won eight consecutive fights, with six coming via submission or knockout. “Prime Time” holds a dominant win over UFC and Strikeforce veteran Yuri Villefort and in his most recent outing, he won a unanimous decision over UFC and Bellator vet Ryan Roberts.
“I'm excited to close out a great year as the main event of RFA 33,” stated Townsend. “I get to fight another tough UFC vet in his hometown and show the world why I'm the best fighter outside the UFC.”
Chavez, who bounced back from two straight setbacks in the UFC with a first-round knockout of veteran Justin Buchholz, is hoping a win over Townsend will keep him moving in the right direction.
“I'm very happy for the opportunity to headline the RFA's year-end show,” Chavez said. “The RFA is an awesome organization, and I have been wanting to get picked up by them for a while. Now I get to headline a show for them in my hometown. I perform better with the support of my friends and family, and I promise an even better showing at RFA 33 than what I did in my last fight.”
RFA 33 will also feature Joe Merritt versus Felipe Fogolin in a welterweight contest; Boston Salmon taking on a bantamweight opponent that will be announced soon; Khalil Rountree against Justin Polendey at middleweight; and Jordan Johnson will meet Luc Bondole in a light heavyweight encounter.
The rest of RFA 33 will be announced shortly. The main card will be televised live on AXS TV at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
