Ray Borg Withdraws from UFC Denver Due to ‘Medical Issues,’ Bout vs. Benavidez Canceled

The bad luck continues for Ray Borg, who has been forced to withdraw from a proposed flyweight clash against Joseph Benavidez at UFC Fight Night 139 in Denver due to “medical issues.”

The promotion announced Borg’s withdrawal and the subsequent cancellation of the bout on Wednesday. Saturday’s event will now proceed with 12 bouts. UFC Fight Night 139 takes place at the Pepsi Center in Denver and is headlined by a featherweight duel pitting Chan Sung Jung against Yair Rodriguez. The card airs on Fox Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Borg has not competed since October 2017, when he was submitted by Demetrious Johnson in a flyweight title bout at UFC 216. Since then, “The Tazmexican Devil” has had four different bouts — including the one vs. Benavidez — fall through for various reasons. The 25-year-old is 5-3 during his promotional tenure and 11-3 as a professional overall.

Benavidez returned from more than a one-year hiatus at UFC 225, where he saw a six-bout winning streak come to an end at the hands of Sergio Pettis.
