A welterweight bout between Colton Smith and Robert Whittaker has been added to the UFC 160 lineup, promotion officials announced Sunday.
UFC 160 takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 25 and is headlined by a heavyweight title tilt between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva. The Memorial Day weekend card also includes another key heavyweight pairing, as former champ Junior dos Santos locks horns with Alistair Overeem in the co-main event.
Smith, 25, emerged as the champion of Season 16 of “The Ultimate Fighter” by defeating Mike Ricci via unanimous decision in December. The Army Ranger has won three of his four MMA bouts since turning pro in 2011, including two by way of submission.
The 22-year-old Whittaker captured “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes” 170-pound title with a unanimous verdict over Brad Scott at UFC on FX 6 on Dec. 15. It was the first time that the Sydney-based competitor had gone the distance in victory; Whittaker had finished his previous nine professional triumphs by knockout or submission.
