Report: Alexander Gustafsson to Fight Glover Teixeira in Sweden

It looks like two of the world’s best light heavyweight contenders will be locking horns later in the year as former world title challenger Alexander Gustafsson will collide with Glover Teixeira.

MMAFighting.com cited multiple sources in a report that says the two 205-pounders will go at in on May 28. The pivotal showdown will likely serve as the main event of an Ultimate Fighting Championship event slated for Stockholm, Sweden, Gustafsson’s homeland.

The two were slated to face off at UFC Fight: Berlin back in 2015, but the lanky Swede suffered an arm injury in training and had to pull out. Gustafsson, who gave a spirited effort against then- champion Jon Jones at UFC 165 but he came up short. “The Mauler” has since gone a pedestrian 2-2 since, but he is coming off a dominant win over Jan Blachowicz at UFC Fight Night 93 last September (online betting).

Teixeira, meanwhile, has been at the precipice of a world title fight for a few years now since losing in his only bid against Jones at UFC 172. After losing to “Bones” and then Phil Davis, the Brazilian rattled off three straight victories before being bludgeoned in just 13 seconds by Anthony Johnson at UFC 202. Teixeira rebounded with a crucial win over Jared Cannonier at UFC 208.

The event and matchup has yet to be officially announced by the UFC.
