Report: Fractured Foot Forces Nunes off June 18 Strikeforce
Mike Whitman Jun 1, 2011
Hard-punching prospect Amanda
Nunes has reportedly suffered a foot fracture that has forced
her to withdraw from a planned June 18 match-up with fellow
135-pound competitor Julie
Kedzie.
MMADiehards.com first reported the news early Wednesday morning, and Kedzie tweeted her disappointment with the report hours later. It is currently unknown if Strikeforce is searching for a replacement opponent for Kedzie.
The women’s bout was to appear on the undercard of Strikeforce
“Overeem vs. Werdum,” which will emanate from American Airlines
Center in Dallas. Headlining the card will be the titular
heavyweight grand prix quarterfinal between Strikeforce heavyweight
champion Alistair
Overeem and jiu-jitsu ace Fabricio
Werdum.
Nunes, 23, has knocked out all six of her fallen foes since she turned pro in 2008. The once-beaten Brazilian was last seen annihilating Canadian striker Julia Budd at Challengers 13 in February, knocking Budd cold in just 14 seconds.
Kedzie has won four-straight bouts. The 30-year-old is a veteran of EliteXC and Bodog Fight competition and most recently outpointed Kaitlin Young to win the Jackson's MMA Series Women’s Bantamweight championship in April.
