A bout between Glover Teixeira and Phil Davis is in the works for UFC 179.
According to a report from Combate.com , the two world-ranked light heavyweights have verbally agreed to square off at an event in Brazil, most likely UFC 179. Promotion officials have yet to confirm the contest.
Although a venue has not been officially named, UFC 179 is expected to be headlined by a featherweight title rematch between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes on Oct. 25 in Rio de Janeiro.
Following a 20-fight winning streak, Teixeira finally came up short when facing Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title at UFC 172. The Brazilian has dispatched the likes of Ryan Bader, James Te Huna, Quinton Jackson, Ricco Rodriguez, and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou over the course of his professional career.
“Mr. Wonderful’s” only two career losses have come at the hands of Blackzilian-based fighters: Rashad Evans at UFC on Fox 2 and Anthony Johnson at UFC 172. A four-time NCAA All-American wrestler at Penn State University, Davis has earned notable triumphs against Brian Stann, Alexander Gustafsson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Lyoto Machida during his professional tenure.
