Report: Matt Sayles Suffers Torn Retina Due to Eye Pokes Against Sheymon Moraes at UFC 227
Matt
Sayles suffered a series of eye pokes in his
UFC 227 fight against Sheymon
Moraes last weekend, all of which went undisciplined by referee
Blake
Grice.
Sayles would ultimately go on to lose a unanimous decision against Moraes, but the real loss came in the form of the damage those unpunished eye pokes caused. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported on Thursday that Sayles suffered a torn retina which will require laser surgery to correct:
Sayles (7-2) is a product of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, but will now be sidelined indefinitely until he is medically cleared following laser eye surgery.
