Report: Miller-Shalorus Eyed for UFC 128

Kamal Shalorus' first fight in the UFC will likely be a tough one, as he will reportedly meet submission specialist Jim Miller at UFC 128 in Newark, N.J.

The news was first reported Wednesday night by MMA Weekly after Miller's management hinted via Twitter that the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt would fight imminently. It now appears the New Jersey native will fight in front of a friendly crowd at the Prudential Center on March 19.

In Miller's last appearance in the cage, he shut down up-and-comer Charles Oliveira at UFC 123 with an expertly executed first-round kneebar. After putting the young Brazilian on his back, Miller looked to land ground-and-pound before seizing the opportunity and diving after Oliveira's foot. Initially the onetime Virginia Tech wrestler looked for a toe hold, but after failing to find the necessary leverage to finish the move, Miller transitioned beautifully to a kneebar and forced the tap out.

Miller has lost only twice in his career, to No. 1 contender Gray Maynard and lightweight king Frankie Edgar, respectively. The AMA Fight Club product is riding a six-fight win streak and is 8-1 since joining the UFC. Miller holds 11 of his 19 career victories by submission.

In Shalorus (Pictured), Miller faces an Olympic freestyle wrestler with heavy hands. Undefeated in nine professional outings, Shalorus most recently edged out Bart Palaszewski with a split decision at WEC 53 on Dec. 16. The Iranian grappler earned a 3-0-1 record while fighting in the little blue cage of the WEC, notching wins over Dave Jansen and Will Kerr in that span. The lone blemish on his WEC career is a June draw to former champion Jamie Varner. Shalorus was penalized a point in the second round of their WEC 49 contest for landing accidental groin strikes.
