Report: Rogers Sentenced to 60 Days in Jail for Assault

Rogers has been sentenced to 60 days in jail after pleading
guilty to a felony count of third degree assault, according to a
report from the St.
Paul Pioneer Press published on TwinCities.com.
A resident of the Minneapolis suburb of Apple Valley, Rogers was sentenced Wednesday in Dakota County District Court by District Judge Karen Asphaug. According to the Pioneer Press report, Rogers, 30, had two felony counts of domestic assault and stalking dropped after making his guilty plea. A gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment was also dismissed.
Rogers was arrested on June 30 after an incident at his home during
which he allegedly struck and strangled his wife. The fighter has
already served 26 days in jail, which will be credited toward his
60-day sentence. According to the report, Rogers is expected to
serve at least two thirds of the 60 days, meaning he will likely
spend at least 14 more days in jail. Rogers was immediately
released by Strikeforce following his June arrest.
Rogers was also sentenced to three years probation, according to the report, which also stated that the fighter may have no contact with his wife until he completes a domestic abuse program and a probation officer approves the contact. Rogers also reportedly cannot use alcohol or drugs as a condition of his probation.
Though the report asserts that Rogers will be allowed to travel for work -- “The Grim” reportedly has a fight booked for Dec. 31 -- his request to postpone his sentence to allow time for training was denied.
After beginning his career a perfect 10-0, Rogers has lost four of his last five. Following a knockout victory over former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski in June 2009, “Da Grim” was finished by Fedor Emelianenko and Alistair Overeem over the course of the next year. Though the former EliteXC talent posted a unanimous decision win over journeyman Ruben Villareal to close out 2010, he has yet earn a win in 2011, falling to Josh Barnett and Eddie Sanchez in June and September, respectively.
