Report: Russow-Madsen Targeted for UFC Fight Night 24

Jon Madsen | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com

The lineup for UFC Fight Night 24 continues to come together, as heavyweights Mike Russow and Jon Madsen have reportedly agreed to square off at the event.

The show, while not officially announced by the promotion, has been confirmed to take place at Key Arena on March 26 in Seattle. MMA Weekly first reported news of the proposed Russow-Madsen matchup.

Russow’s last appearance in the Octagon was a memorable one, as he scored a stunning, come-from-behind knockout over prospect Todd Duffee. After being dominated by the athletic Duffee through the first two frames, the 34-year-old landed a perfectly placed straight right hand that wobbled the young lion. As Duffee fell to his back, the veteran followed with another right hand and finished his unconscious opponent with a hammerfist to earn the KO. Russow rides a nine-fight win streak heading into his upcoming contest. The only loss of his career came to Sambo specialist Sergei Kharitonov at Pride 33 in 2007.

A contestant on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10, Madsen was eliminated from the show in the quarter-finals by eventual finalist Brendan Schaub. Madsen is still undefeated in official MMA bouts, however, and that streak extends to his four-fight stint in the Octagon. After earning a split decision victory over Justin Wren in “The Ultimate Fighter 10” Finale in December 2009, the HIT Squad product outpointed Mostapha Al-Turk and Karlos Vemola before stopping veteran Gilbert Yvel at UFC 121 in October. The former North Dakota State wrestler holds four of his seven career victories by decision.
