Report: Silva Defends Against Marquardt; Ortiz-Evans On

By Sherdog.com Staff Mar 22, 2007
Anderson Silva will get a second chance to make a first UFC title defense when he faces Nathan Marquardt (Pictures) July 7 in Las Vegas, MMAWeekly.com reported. The 185-pound Brazilian champion missed his first defense opportunity in February when challenger Travis Lutter (Pictures) failed to make weight.

Marquardt, a multiple King of Pancrase titleholder, is winner of six in a row (the last four in the Octagon), including a decision over Kazuo Misaki in 2004. Decisions over Ivan Salaverry (Pictures), Joe Doerksen (Pictures), and Dean Lister (Pictures) as well as a submission against Crafton Wallace (Pictures) have put Marquardt on the precipice of becoming UFC champion.

Former UFC light heavyweight champ Tito Ortiz (Pictures) will return to the ring for the first time since Chuck Liddell (Pictures) stopped "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" on Dec. 30, when he faces rising 205-pound star Rashad Evans (Pictures) on the undercard of Silva-Marquardt, MMAWeekly also confirmed.
