Report: Urijah Faber-Iuri Alcantara Booked for UFC’s Fox Sports 1 Debut in Boston
The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first appearance on Fox Sports 1 will feature a bantamweight showdown between Urijah Faber and Iuri Alcantara, according to a report from the Las Vegas Sun.
The Aug. 17 event takes place at TD Garden in Boston and will also showcase a heavyweight tilt pitting ex-Strikeforce king Alistair Overeem against Hawaiian talent Travis Browne. Additionally, Matt Brown will take on Thiago Alves at welterweight, while Joe Lauzon and Michael Johnson tangle at 155 pounds.
Faber, 34, has won three of his last four fights. Though “The California Kid” came up short in his bid to capture the UFC interim bantamweight title last year, he responded with a pair of wins to kick off 2013, submitting Ivan Menjivar and Scott Jorgensen with rear-naked chokes in February and April.
Alcantara, 32, has looked sharp since making the cut to 135 pounds, dominating countryman Pedro Nobre in his bantamweight debut this past January. While that bout was controversially ruled a no-contest due to strikes to the back of the head, “Marajo” left no doubt in his next outing, as he knocked out Illiarde Santos last month at UFC on FX 8.
